Carbohydrates are for the body as fuel is to the car. They keep us fueled and energized. But something goes wrong when we consume too many carbohydrates. Unlike gasoline spilling out of a car when the tank is full, the carbs have no place to go. They can’t be passed from our system like grams of protein can when we consume too many. So instead of doing good in the body where they provide energy, they become stored as fat in the body. But that is a very complicated process that we don’t need to go into at length. Just trust me. We all know what happens when we eat too much. But that’s not why I write this post. The point of this post is to share exactly how I go about my day. What I eat and how I have managed to stay slim my entire life.
God has given us so many good things to eat. It’s hard for us to stay away from it. It is for me too. But we have to be counting those crazy carbs because they matter to our overall health. When we were younger we could eat just about anything that we wanted, But as we get older our metabolism slows down and we slow down. When we combine those two things working against us as well as the temptation to overeat and consume too much, we have a snowball effect. And before we know it we are packing on the fat. Around our waste, hips, thighs, neck, face, and arms. We can almost alter our entire appearance if we aren’t careful. Just imagine what we look like on the inside. Our vital organs-heart, arteries, stomach, are slowly growing unhealthy and our circulation eventually becomes poor.
What We Can Do About It
What I am recommending isn’t a diet. Diets do not work. Almost everyone that I have ever met has tried one diet or another but they fail. Why? Because as soon as we achieve our goal we go right back to where we started. Nothing changed permanently. It was just a temporary fix to a lifelong struggle. We need to be honest with with ourselves. We need a change.
What I am recommending is a lifestyle change.
Almost all of us can indulge a little bit. We succumb to temptations at parties, social gatherings etc. And that’s okay. We aren’t eating like this forever.
Counting Crazy Carbs
In one of my earlier posts, I talked about sugar and the relationship it has with cancer. Sugar plays a critical role in the amount of carbs that we take in. Sugar will rob you of your daily carb intake. Sugar takes the place of a healthy carb. Our bodies treat a carb used for energy as a carb used for energy. Would you rather bank healthy carbs such as from whole grains, fruits, and beans, instead of an empty carb like sugar? And speaking of sugar, my post about the level of sugar in sodas talks about how bad those are for you. I admit that they were very hard for me to give up. When I was a teen it wasn’t uncommon for me to drink an entire six-pack of Dr. Pepper while mowing grass as a side job in the summer. Dr. Pepper has 66 grams of sugar in a 12 ounce can. There are 9 grams of sugar in a teaspoon. Dr. Pepper contains an astounding 7.5 teaspoons of sugar. Today I am proud to say that I haven’t had any soda in over 5 years.
How To Go About It
There are too many diet plans. Let’s be honest, many of us know someone who will hop on the latest diet out there. Do any of them really work better than the one before? I am sure they do. But what really works for me and will also work for you is eating the food that God has already created. We don’t need a diet, a pill, a nutritional supplement, or even a network marketing plan company (although some have really good products and can be really good as a source of income if you work hard and do your homework.) There is nothing better than eating raw or freshly steamed vegetables, fruits, grains, and nuts, and a meat source for protein. I am a firm believer in eating meat for a complete amino acid. More on that later.
Make A Commitment Today
Commit to living a healthy lifestyle. Let me ask you something. Would you prefer to live a healthier lifestyle with a high chance to live out your old age being as healthy as you can possibly be with fewer complications, -or- would you rather live it up today, eat all you want, with almost the painful certainty of many health complications in you old age? You decide the next chapter of your life. So let’s get to it!
