Maintaining Health and Wellness Over 50

A new life style of Success

Don’t Give Up On Health and Wellness

As we are well underway for the new year, I am taking time as a Health and Wellness Coach to share something amazing that has been on my mind for a while- Health and Wellness.

Because we all go through health struggles from time to time, I truly believe that it makes sense to do the best that we can to be as healthy as we can for as long as we can. Simply because our bodies are aging, doesn’t mean that we need to give in. Some people, when they feel they have reached a certain age, lets just say the age of over 50, they give up trying to take care of themselves. They think more of how they used to be and cannot see themselves in the now. Are you this way? Do you see yourself now and wish for something in the past? The athleticism and the fitness and perfect health are gone and the lines and wrinkles of every year now are showing. Hang on and don’t quit.

There is no better way to quickly speed up the aging process than to give up trying to maintain or even improve your health and wellness. I have a friend that at one time truly believed that health didn’t matter any more. He continued to wish for the good old days. I finally encouraged him to start living in the here and now to be the best that he can be.

There are numerous ways to maintain health and wellness over 50. Being over 50 doesn’t really spell disaster. But if health and wellness are not maintained, a very difficult time awaits those in this category.

Let me ask you a question…Would you rather be old and pain-free or old, decrepit, and experiencing massive pain and body failure because of health and wellness neglect?

The choice of the road that you go down is completely up to you…but I want to encourage you to choose wisely. Once you choose your path, it is almost impossible to turn back because the damage has already been done.

There are some great benefits to maintaining health and wellness over 50 verses the consequences of life out of control.

Proverbs 23:2-3 and put a knife to your throat if you are given to appetite. Do not desire his delicacies, for they are deceptive food.

Proverbs 23:21 For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and slumber will cloth them with rags.

2 Peter 2:19 They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved.

Proverbs 25:28 A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.

1 Corinthians 6:12-13 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be dominated by anything.

Philippians 3:19 Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things.

The benefits of maintaining health and wellness over 50 are extremely beneficial and are a stark contrast to the issues related to giving up.

Benefits of Health and Well-Being:

Overall wellness physically

Mental Alertness- the important ability to handle stress and maintain energy levels.

Lose or maintain weight- This means control over cholesterol and Triglyceride

Healthy lifestyle with exercise and supplementation.

Cardiovascular, respiratory, and immune system health.

There is change offered by what God’s word says. It provides meaningful applicable power given by God to enable every one of us to do the best to maintain health and wellness over 50 or at almost any age. Even though we are getting older, we should follow God’s word and take care of the temple that He has given us.

A Habit of Health:

Proverbs 24:10-Winners never give up.

Proverbs 24:16-Winners always get up.

Proverbs 10:9- Winners always live up.

Proverbs 10:17- Winners do it the right way.

Philippians 4:13- Winners focus on success.

The Bible also sys in Hosea “My people perish for a lack of knowledge.”

When we gain knowledge and believe what God’s word says about our life and the way we are to live, we will repent and turn away from our poor health habits i. e. habits of overeating, choosing to much of the wrong foods, and turn our dietary and exercise regimen around for the good that God has for us.

Maintaining health and wellness over 50 can be managed. Some people are able to do it fairly easily because they have an active lifestyle and have consistently taken great care of themselves. They don’t need much help or motivation. On the other hand, there are some who are either inconsistent and their good health gradually slips away, or they are altogether have neglected their bodies.

But no matter your situation, my advice is this. Forget the past and fix your eyes on the present. Take action steps to find the root causes  and triggers for the poor decisions made regarding your health.

As a Health and Wellness coach I help my clients to do just that and more.

Joy In The Juncture

Joy In The Juncture

The question is often asked of Christians, “How do you stay so happy during this difficult time?”

As a husband and father who is trying to put all of the pieces back together myself, I struggle at times with the uncertainty and finality of things. I want to get there now.

But I know that God wants me to share what he has told me in His word.

You make known to me the path of life;

in your presence there is fullness of joy;

at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Psalm 16:11

After my brain tumor surgery, I awoke and could not see much of anything except for a little light and shadows. I was totally blind. It nearly scared me half to death. For the rest of the day I had physicians coming in and out of my room asking me if I could see.

By nightfall, and early into the next morning as I was being constantly observed, my vision got to the point that I could barely see light. Just when I thought it couldn’t get worse, it did.

The nurse on staff quickly paged the surgeon who wanted to take me back into surgery.

I pleaded with them to wait. I wanted to make sure that my family and friends would be praying for me during the next surgery.

Although I am still considered legally blind, God did something that night. He miraculously allowed me to obtain some of my vision back. I continue to work through being legally blind today.

But as tough as it has been to be considered blind and to get it back together, I have to remember that God didn’t send the Jews to the dessert for a weekend retreat. Nor will he solve all of my problems in a weekend.

It is up to me how I choose to look at my circumstances. I can look at it the way that the world does and dwell there and miss God working in my life, or I can choose the positive, which is to look at my circumstances the way God would have me look at it, and see God working in my life.

It is in the work of God that gives me joy, and wherever God is working He wants us to take pleasure.

Isn’t it it great to see God working rather than not working? Isn’t it good to know that God has chosen you for the blessing of suffering?

In suffering there is ample opportunity, which includes “joy in the juncture”, to shine for Jesus and to let the world know that no matter what the peril, you continue to look upward to your heavenly father. That you accept the opportunity to bless others with your unmoved and unfaltering faith that comes from knowing Christ.

The question asked should not be “Why do bad things happen to good people.” The question should be “What are good people of faith going to do with the blessing and opportunity that they have been given?”

Besides, in life’s ups and downs, when you are on that upside, you know that there is bound to be a downside.

Joy in the juncture cannot be of our own doing. If left to ourself and on our own, we would self destruct in the hard times.

Be Free To Live With Joy In The Junction

What enables us is the power of God allowing us to be free from ourselves and to not lean on our own understanding. As believers in Jesus Christ we have a higher calling that is so much greater than ourselves.

The hard times that we face, whether it be overcoming a job loss, recovering from the loss of a loved one, debilitating health problems, divorce, or financial hardship are not pleasant. But in the midst of all the striving, Jesus gives us peace. Through Christ we have overcome the world. Your faith overcomes anything that the world can throw at you.

Many times as Christians, we relinquish our faith and try to overcome the challenges on our own. When this happens it is because we were already leaning more on our own understanding rather than leaning on the understanding of God’s will for our life. This is where we often make painful mistakes along the way. These mistakes will cause us grief one day when we realize that we didn’t give Jesus our everything. We will one day soon come to the final realization the He gave everything that he had to give and we did not reciprocate. The knowledge of this will be regretful.

Joyfully however, for those who continue to prepare for the battle ahead,  and put on the full armor of God, will be rewarded in simply knowing that through it all, they were faithful and gave Christ everything they had in return.

In the difficulty there is opportunity…

What will you do? Will you lean on your own understanding, or move forward in the direction of Christ and receive the reward and blessing in knowing that you gave Jesus everything that you had to give.

Though blind, I see what God sees.

Please follow me and share. Thanks!

Welcome To My Blog!

I’ve always had a passion to write. With so many blogs out there I might as well have one too.  It seems a little odd putting it all out there for the entire world to see. You wonder just how much to share without revealing anything too personal.

The only goal for me here is to be real and to create an atmosphere that is encouraging and to also share the things that I enjoy the most. And oh, because I enjoy health and being well, you will find a lot of tips on health and nutrition.  But I also love Jesus so you are bound to see a lot of him too..

I hope you enjoy as much as I do writing. The only thing hard about this is deciding what to write next. I appreciate any thoughts regarding the content so I will know what works for my fan club. What works and what would you like to see more of?
